Apple Intelligence 2.0 Expands On-Device AI Capabilities

Apple has announced Apple Intelligence 2.0, a major expansion of its on-device AI capabilities. The update includes a significantly more capable Siri, real-time visual translation, advanced computational photography, and cross-app AI actions.

Apple has unveiled Apple Intelligence 2.0, a substantial upgrade to its on-device AI platform that will ship with iOS 19.4, macOS 16.4, and iPadOS 19.4 in April 2026. The update addresses many of the limitations of the initial Apple Intelligence release and positions Apple's AI capabilities as competitive with cloud-based alternatives.

The headline feature is a dramatically improved Siri that can maintain multi-turn conversations, understand context across apps, and execute complex multi-step tasks. Users can now say things like "Find the restaurant Sarah recommended last week in our Messages conversation, check if they have availability tonight, and add it to my calendar" — and Siri will handle the entire workflow.

Apple Intelligence 2.0 introduces real-time visual translation through the camera, supporting 25 languages with on-device processing that requires no internet connection. The feature works for signs, menus, documents, and live conversation translation, all processed locally on the device's Neural Engine.

Advanced photo and video editing capabilities are now built into the Photos app, including AI-powered object removal, scene extension, style transfer, and a new "Memory Movie" feature that automatically creates edited short films from photo libraries with transitions, music, and narration.

All Apple Intelligence 2.0 features run on-device by default, with optional cloud processing through Apple's Private Cloud Compute for tasks that exceed the device's capabilities. Apple emphasized its privacy-first approach, noting that no user data is stored on servers and that cloud computations occur in encrypted enclaves. The update will be available on iPhone 16 and later, all M-series Macs, and iPad Pro and Air models from 2024 onward.
